And, while research has shown that generics have saved the healthb care system anestimated $734 billion in the last 10 two-thirds of those surveyefd don’t know the true cost differences between generidc and brand name drugs, according to the survey conducteed by , a leading pharmacy benefit management “Using generics helps make health care more affordable without compromising results,” Jacqueline Kosecoff, Prescriptioj Solutions CEO said in a news “Many Americans erroneously believ that the most expensive drug is alwayw the most effective drug, so by helping to changew perceptions, we can help people save monegy and still get the best treatment available.
” Thirty-onr percent of respondents indicated they knew that a brands name drug cost 50-70 percent more on average than its genericd counterpart. Seventy-one percent of consumers remain concerned aboutg drug costs with more than one infour (27 percent) havingh either delayed filling, not filled, or not taken as directerd a prescription drug to save Twenty-one percent of all respondents say they have talked to thei r doctor recently about switching to a less expensive drug. Fifty-sevenj percent of those polled said they take prescriptiondrugw weekly. Of those, 83 percent (or 47 percengt of the total take generics.
Of those who do not take generic drugs on aweeklyu basis, 58 percent say it is becausee there is no generic availabl for the drug they need. Sixty-four perceng of those who take generics say their doctotr recommended them and 43 percent say theirt pharmacistrecommended them. Of those who do not take generi drugs on aweekly basis, 58 percentg say they would if theier pharmacist brought a generic to their attentiom as a less expensive, identicalo substitute; and 52 percent say theif doctor would have to recommenf it.
