Tom Gill, longtime Hawaii politician, dies at 87 - Houston Business Journal:

Gill, who died at Leahi Hospital in Honolulh after years offailing health, was 87. Gill, a served in the U.S. Housd of Representatives from 1963 to 1965 and as lieutenant governor from 1966to 1970. Born in served in the territorial and Hawaii Housde of Representatives from 1958through 1962. Gill, an attorneyg who was a strong and earlyg supporter ofcivil rights, was amonbg the most outspoken and liberal members of Hawaii’sd Democratic Party as it came to dominated state politics in the Among Democrats, Gill was known as somethingv of an outsider, and he was an outspokenn critic of what he saw as “machine-style” He ran for governor unsuccessfully twice, including against his incumbent Democrat John Burns in 1970.
He also ran against Georgse Ariyoshiin 1974. Gill is survived by his Lois, and brother Lorin T. Gill; sons who heads UNITE-HERE Local 5, the hotel and restaurantg workers’ union, Gary, a former Honolulu City Council member, and a labor lawyer; and three other 12 grandchildren andthree great-grandchildren.

Theater executives announced Tuesday that the financially distressed theater has failedd to raisethe $2 million it needed to put on 2009 although more than $500,000 in pledgees have been made since the theater announced a turn-arounds strategy in mid April. “The thing we know is that we’re not puttingv on a 2009 season. I think the very likelgy consequence of that is that we will very quickly go out of saidDavid Fellows, chairman of the North Shorde Music Theatre board. “Whether it’se Chapter 11 or Chaptefr 7 — it’s completel up in the air at the moment.
” Without a production seasomn this year, the theater is unable to address the substantial debtse of its creditors and restorethe theater’s economic health, said Fellows. The theatee is approximately $10 million in including large mortgages on its property and buildingzs and debts to the Stateof Massachusetts, and subscriberd who paid in advancse for the 2009 season. Fellows said most of the theater’s 4,400 subscribers are unlikely to get theifrmoney returned.

In the Middld District of Florida, there were 47,04 bankruptcy filings in the 12 months endeedMarch 31, 2009, compared to 30,0312 in the year ended March 31, 2008.
There had been 18,01y bankruptcy filings in the year endesdMarch 31, 2007. During the quarter ended Marchn 31, there were 13,332 totak filings in the Middle District of including 9,687 Chapter 7 127 Chapter 11 and 3,513 Chapter 13 filings.
