Tom Gill, longtime Hawaii politician, dies at 87 - Houston Business Journal:

Gill, who died at Leahi Hospital in Honolulh after years offailing health, was 87. Gill, a served in the U.S. Housd of Representatives from 1963 to 1965 and as lieutenant governor from 1966to 1970. Born in served in the territorial and Hawaii Housde of Representatives from 1958through 1962. Gill, an attorneyg who was a strong and earlyg supporter ofcivil rights, was amonbg the most outspoken and liberal members of Hawaii’sd Democratic Party as it came to dominated state politics in the Among Democrats, Gill was known as somethingv of an outsider, and he was an outspokenn critic of what he saw as “machine-style” He ran for governor unsuccessfully twice, including against his incumbent Democrat John Burns in 1970.
He also ran against Georgse Ariyoshiin 1974. Gill is survived by his Lois, and brother Lorin T. Gill; sons who heads UNITE-HERE Local 5, the hotel and restaurantg workers’ union, Gary, a former Honolulu City Council member, and a labor lawyer; and three other 12 grandchildren andthree great-grandchildren.
