Kentucky colleges get $14 million in grants - Business First of Louisville:

According to a news releasde fromKentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, the and the U.S. Department of Educationm awarded grants to Kentucky universitiesof $12.5 million and $2.1 million, respectively. The five-yeard NSF grant will fund university research in the areasaof biotechnology, nanotechnology and cyber-technologies. The majoritg of the funding was provided for research at theand , but , , , , and also will be involvef in the research, the release said. will match the grantt through its Experimental Prograkm to Stimulate Competitive Research program with anadditional $5 million over the five-yeart period. The U.S.
Department of Education part of its Advanced Placement Incentive Program, will fund the AdvanceKentucky The state program helps Kentucky high schoolse implement curricula to increase the number of studentws enrolled in math, science and Englisg Advanced Placement courses and to prepare thos students for AP exams. As part of the the Department of Education isproviding $200,00 0 to help expand AP courses in which has been designated nationally as a critica foreign language. The grant will allow the state to add six schools to theAdvanceKentucky program, whicu currently has 12 schools participating. By 2012, the stated expects to have 90 highschool participating, the release said.
